Europeanization, disengagement or de-Europeanization? The post-Brexit police cooperation
Based on the analysis of police cooperation, this article explains how complex the post-Brexit paths could be in respect to British public policies and thus contributes to the renewed study of Europeanization. Political speeches and campaign arguments in favour of the British withdrawal could have let one assume some distancing of the UK from the European Union (EU) or even some dismantling of what had been previously europeanized. However, our contribution offers to understand the (non-)changes related to Brexit in some policy fields. In other words, this unprecedented event would not necessarily create discontinuity or change as Europeanization could remain active. Using interviews and document analysis, we argue that this scenario is due to the preexisting mutual adjustments between the British and EU level, considering their intensity but also their characteristics, especially their multi-dimensional nature.
